Mathematics for K−2
The new syllabus must now be taught in Kindergarten to Year 2 in all NSW primary schools.
Mathematics for 3−10
The new syllabus is to be taught in Years 3 to 10 from 2024.
2024 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts.

Life Skills
- MAO-WM-01
develops understanding and fluency in mathematics through exploring and connecting mathematical concepts, choosing and applying mathematical techniques to solve problems, and communicating their thinking and reasoning coherently and clearly
- MALS-MDI-01
uses strategies for multiplication and division
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Respond to and use the language of multiplication and division in everyday contexts
Model multiplication by recognising equal groups or multiples of items to solve problems
Multiply 2 numbers
Estimate and check the product of 2 numbers
Use single-digit multiplication to solve problems
Use commutative properties of numbers
Select and apply appropriate strategies for multiplication to solve problems
Model division by recognising equal groups to solve problems
Divide 2 numbers
Estimate the result when dividing 2 numbers
Use multiplication and division as inverse operations
