Safety and risk management

Schools need to be aware of their safety responsibilities and take appropriate steps to implement safety systems in their schools. This includes following the guidelines set out in the school registration manual that is relevant to their school.

Schools are responsible for knowing and adhering to relevant state and national legislation, regulations, standards, and other considerations when designing teaching and learning, including:

  • Work Health and Safety requirements, including the safe handling, use, storage and disposal of tools, equipment, materials and chemicals
  • students' wellbeing and safety, including school policies and procedures that make provision for student welfare and enable a safe and supportive environment
  • ethical animal welfare standards and control of biosecurity risks
  • the use of technology, including digital devices and online services.
