Mathematics for K−2
The new syllabus must now be taught in Kindergarten to Year 2 in all NSW primary schools.
Mathematics for 3−10
The new syllabus is to be taught in Years 3 to 10 from 2024.
2024 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts.
Content
Life Skills
- MAO-WM-01
develops understanding and fluency in mathematics through exploring and connecting mathematical concepts, choosing and applying mathematical techniques to solve problems, and communicating their thinking and reasoning coherently and clearly
- MALS-FIN-02
plans and manages personal finances
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Use an appropriate payment method
Recognise language associated with financial management
Make informed decisions about purchases
Demonstrate knowledge about the cost of goods and/or services
Recognise the value of money when making purchases
Estimate amounts of money needed to purchase goods or services
Estimate the amount of change due
Recognise sources of personal finance
Identify essential personal purchases
Keep money in a secure location
Track income and spending
Calculate expenses with available funds
Respond to financial terms
Interpret information from a variety of bills or receipts
