Life Skills for Stage 4/5

Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.

Environmental sustainability

Working scientifically

In this focus area, students develop skills in asking questions or making predictions, interpreting data and information, and identifying problems and strategies that can be used to solve them. Additional Working scientifically outcomes and skills may be integrated with this content.

Sustainability
  • Identify that resources can be limited

  • Predict what would happen if there were no resources left

  • Identify strategies to manage different resources in everyday life

  • Participate in producing and using vegetables or other salad ingredients, including composting any waste vegetable matter

Human impact on the environment
  • Identify the impacts of human activity on the environment

  • Describe the impact that changes in the environment can have on people in the future

  • Recognise that pollution can have an impact on changes to the climate

  • Describe Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ practices in the management of their Country and Land

Alternative resource use and recycling
  • Identify different materials used to make everyday items

  • Describe the impact of different materials on the environment

  • Find recycling options in the local area

  • Interpret the symbols on containers and packaging to identify materials that can be recycled

  • Identify ways to reduce human impact on the environment

  • Engage with Aboriginal Communities to identify sustainable practices
