The new Science 7–10 Syllabus (2023) is to be implemented from 2026.

School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts.

Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Working scientifically
In this focus area, students develop skills in recording and interpreting data and information. Additional Working scientifically outcomes and skills may be integrated with this content.

Observe and describe the properties of metals and non-metals
Record some everyday uses of metals
Identify familiar household chemicals
Identify warning labels on household chemicals to help with safe use
Interpret chemical safety or hazard symbols and relate them to the chemical property
Identify and classify household chemicals as flammable, combustible, toxic or corrosive
Describe how to safely transport and store hazardous materials
Demonstrate first aid for hazardous chemical exposure
Describe how Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples use available materials in the natural environment to administer first aid
Investigate the consequences of incorrectly storing a household chemical
Record toxic chemicals found in the home
Investigate the impact of repeated exposure to toxic chemicals
