The new Science 7–10 Syllabus (2023) is to be implemented from 2026.

School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts.
Content
Life Skills
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Working scientifically
In this focus area, students develop skills in planning and conducting investigations, and identifying problems and strategies that can be used to solve them. Additional Working scientifically outcomes and skills may be integrated with this content.

Describe innovative ways in which Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples use water in the natural environment
Identify the different states of water
Describe the effect of temperature on the state of water
Outline some properties of water
Recognise solutions in everyday life
Participate in planning and selecting the equipment for an investigation to observe the effect of water on some soluble and insoluble substances
Participate in modelling the different amounts of solute in dilute and concentrated solutions
Participate in an experiment to collect data about what substances can be dissolved in water
Recognise common mixtures in everyday life
Identify that water needs to be clean to be safe for drinking, swimming, bathing and other uses
Identify ways to remove substances from dirty water, such as filtration, decantation and evaporation
Use separation techniques to separate water from common mixtures and solutions
Compare water obtained from different sources
Participate in an investigation into how boats float
Identify strategies that could be used to solve a problem using separation techniques
