Life Skills for Stage 4/5

Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.

Waves and motion

Working scientifically

In this focus area, students develop skills in conducting scientific investigations, and recording data and information. Additional Working scientifically outcomes and skills may be integrated with this content.

  • Observe the movement of waves

  • Participate in modelling waves

Sound waves
  • Identify a range of everyday sounds

  • Record sounds in the local area

  • Identify that sound is a vibration and can cause objects to vibrate

  • Engage with sounds produced by Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ musical instruments

Light waves
  • Identify common sources of light

  • Participate in modelling the reflection of light

Motion
  • Recognise the different ways people and objects move

  • Describe the motion of a person or object

  • Participate in an investigation to measure and record the distance and time travelled by a person in motion

  • Describe how speed changes for different types of motion
