Early Stage 1

Phonic knowledge
Single-letter graphemes
  • Match a Loading  with a Loading 

  • Say the most common phoneme for single-letter Loading  (graphs)

  • Loading  single-letter Loading  to Loading  VC and Loading , and apply this knowledge when Loading , including Loading 

  • Loading  and encode single-letter VC and CVC words, and apply this knowledge when writing words and creating Loading 

  • Blend common single-letter grapheme–phoneme correspondences to read CCVC and CVCC words, and apply this when reading texts, including decodable texts

  • Segment common, single-letter grapheme–phoneme correspondences to Loading  CCVC and CVCC words

Digraphs
  • Decode and blend words containing Loading  and apply this when reading texts, including decodable texts

  • Segment and encode CVC words containing consonant digraphs

  • Decode words containing Loading  and Loading 

  • Experiment with encoding Loading  containing split digraphs and vowel digraphs
