Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.

Graphics: Graphic modelling and prototyping
Designing and planning
  • Recognise 3-dimensional (3D) representations used in media and entertainment

  • Recognise design elements in 3D representations

  • Identify the steps needed to make a model or prototype of a graphic product

  • Create a plan outlining the steps to make a graphic model or prototype

  • Demonstrate the purpose and function of a graphic model or prototype

  • Explore ways concept sketches communicate design ideas

  • Identify parts of a graphic model or prototype

  • Create sketches or working drawings for a graphic model or prototype

  • Use computer-aided design (CAD) software to create drawings for designing a graphic model or prototype

  • Identify materials and parts needed to build a graphic model or prototype

Physical modelling and prototyping
  • Recognise types of materials used to make models

  • Use modelling techniques to show ideas for architectural, cabinet, engineering, landscape or product drawings

  • Select materials for a model

  • Use modelling materials safely

  • Use manual drawing or software to create shapes or parts

  • Use measurements to draw parts of a design to scale

  • Select and use tools or machines to safely make physical models

  • Prepare digital files to send to computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) machines

  • Explore and use printing methods and materials to decorate or label models

  • Use finishing techniques to complete a model

  • Communicate features and purpose of a model

  • Test the alignment of a model to the plan, including key features and the intended goal

  • Test the functionality of a model, including material, scale and colour

Digital modelling and prototyping
  • Recognise real-life objects and their matching 3D digital models

  • Use touchscreen devices, zoom tools or simplified interfaces to view and interact with 3D models

  • Select textures from software libraries to represent materials or surfaces in 3D models

  • Use computer-aided design (CAD) software to create a 3D model of an architectural, cabinet, engineering or landscape design

  • Use measurements to design a model to scale

  • Use software tools to rotate, flip or position parts of a model

  • Use CAD software to engage with fly-throughs or animations to present design ideas or information

  • Explore a range of 3D representations, including augmented reality (AR) or virtual reality (VR)

  • Identify how AR and VR can help people engage with designs in a real or digital space

  • Use 3D models, images, audio descriptions or multisensory methods to explore designs

  • Identify how artificial intelligence (AI) tools can be used in 3D modelling

  • Test the alignment of a digital model to the plan, including key features and intended goal

  • Test the functionality of a digital model, including visual design and audio features
