Life Skills for Stage 4/5

Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.

Graphics: Graphic design and communication
Graphical communication
  • Recognise ways Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Expressions, signs and symbols communicate meaning

  • Recognise common symbols or logos used to communicate in everyday life

  • Identify how different types of graphics communicate information

  • Develop graphs, charts or pictographs to show information

  • Use flowcharts, timelines or infographics to show a process or information graphically

Graphic design
  • Recognise how graphics are used by individuals and in society

  • Explore graphic design principles used to develop graphic solutions

  • Apply the design principles of balance, contrast and proportion to develop a graphic solution

  • Identify elements of brand identity

  • Communicate graphic ideas or solutions for a specific purpose or audience

  • Use graphic tools to solve problems

  • Use design software to plan graphic solutions

  • Explore ways to prepare, manipulate or edit images

  • Identify features of accessible graphic solutions

  • Use grids or guides to plan a layout for a graphic design, including titles, images or other features

  • Explore ethical issues related to artificial intelligence (AI) tools

Industrial printing process
  • Explore how colours can look different on screen and in print

  • Identify products that digital, offset or screen printing would be used for

  • Apply finishing processes, such as cutting, folding, binding or laminating

  • Identify the steps to get a file ready for printing, including ensuring appropriate file format, resolution and printer settings

Producing and presenting
  • Identify graphic tools used to develop ideas or solutions

  • Use manual or digital tools to produce a graphic solution

  • Use diagrams or sketches to develop graphic ideas or solutions

  • Produce graphic solutions, including text, titles, headings, logos or images

  • Use manual modelling techniques or computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) to prototype a 3-dimensional (3D) graphic solution

  • Use printing methods to produce a printed graphic solution

  • Use design software to develop a screen-based graphic solution

  • Test the functionality of a graphic solution, including clarity of messaging and appropriateness for the target audience

  • Test the design standards of a graphic solution, including colour, Loading  and layout
