K–10Aboriginal Languages K–10 Syllabus
The new Aboriginal Languages K–10 (2022) syllabus is to be implemented from 2024.
2024 – Start teaching new syllabus for:
- Schools with a K–6 program
- Mandatory 100 hours of a Language in Years 7–10
Students who commenced the 100-hour or 200-hour elective course in 2023 may continue to study the Aboriginal Languages K–10 Syllabus (2003) in 2024.
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts.
Content
Stage 5
- AL5-COM-01
composes texts in the target language, applying a range of linguistic structures for a variety of contexts, purposes and audiences
Content is provided for:
- Additional: Language Revival – students learning the target language as an additional language
- Prior: Language Revival – students with significant prior learning and/or experience in the target language
- First: students continuing to learn their First Language as the target language.
Apply linguistic patterns to compose a variety of texts in the target language, for a range of contexts, purposes and audiences
Apply linguistic patterns to compose a variety of texts in the target language, for a range of contexts, purposes and audiences
Compose texts using a variety of formats for a range of contexts, purposes and audiences, and applying genre, textual features and stylistic devices
Create a range of bilingual texts and resources to support language learning in the school and wider community
Create a range of bilingual texts and resources to support language learning in the school and wider community
Create a range of bilingual/multilingual texts and resources for language learning
Apply intonation and phrasing patterns of the target language to convey meaning
Understand grammatical structures of the target language, and apply them to express complex ideas
Apply intonation and phrasing patterns in speech to convey meaning
Understand a range of grammatical structures of the target language and apply these to express complex ideas
Apply intonation and sound patterns in speech
Develop and use metalanguage to analyse a range of grammatical structures in the target language and other languages
