K–10Aboriginal Languages K–10 Syllabus
The new Aboriginal Languages K–10 (2022) syllabus is to be implemented from 2024.
2024 – Start teaching new syllabus for:
- Schools with a K–6 program
- Mandatory 100 hours of a Language in Years 7–10
Students who commenced the 100-hour or 200-hour elective course in 2023 may continue to study the Aboriginal Languages K–10 Syllabus (2003) in 2024.
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts.

Stage 5
- AL5-LAB-01
analyses and evaluates protocols, programs and techniques to maintain and build Aboriginal Languages
Content is provided for:
- Additional: Language Revival – students learning the target language as an additional language
- Prior: Language Revival – students with significant prior learning and/or experience in the target language
- First: students continuing to learn their First Language as the target language.
Analyse processes and protocols for maintaining and building Aboriginal Languages
Investigate and analyse language-building processes and protocols associated with maintaining, reviving and strengthening Aboriginal Languages
Investigate and analyse protocols, programs and techniques that contribute to the strengthening of Aboriginal Languages
Investigate and compare the ecology of the target language with other Aboriginal Languages, Torres Strait Islander Languages and international Indigenous Languages
Investigate the ecology of the target language and compare with other Aboriginal Languages, Torres Strait Islander Languages, and international Indigenous Languages
Investigate and compare the effects of language policies and practices on the ecologies of Aboriginal Languages, Torres Strait Islander Languages and international Indigenous Languages
