Stage 1

Spelling
Phonological component
  • Loading  single-Loading  words into Loading  as a strategy for spelling

  • Segment Loading  into syllables and phonemes as a strategy for spelling

Orthographic component
  • Loading  when to use Loading  to spell 2-syllable Loading  and apply this when spelling

  • Spell high-frequency base words with taught Loading  graphs, Loading , Loading , Loading  and quadgraphs

  • Explain that the consonant trigraphs, –tch and –dge, can end a base word immediately following a short vowel and apply this when spelling

  • Spell taught high-frequency Loading 

  • Use Loading  for taught Loading 

Morphological component
  • Use spelling Loading  when adding plural-marking Loading 

  • Use spelling conventions when adding Loading -marking suffixes

  • Spell Loading  ending in the suffix –er to indicate a person

  • Use the comparative and superlative suffixes –er and –est

  • Use the suffixes –ful, –y and –ly to spell taught high-frequency words

  • Use knowledge of Loading  to spell taught compound words and Loading  with taught Loading , digraphs, split digraphs, trigraphs and quadgraphs
