7–10Child Studies 7–10 Syllabus
The new Child Studies 7–10 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2028 and will replace the Child Studies 7–10 Syllabus (2019).
2026 and 2027 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2028 – Start teaching new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.
Content
Life Skills
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Recognise healthcare options for expectant mothers
Recognise prenatal screening programs for expectant mothers
Identify the purpose of screening processes for newborns
Recognise how immunisation helps prevent disease and illness in the community
Identify how childhood immunisations are recorded
Explore the factors that influence access to immunisation and screening programs
Recognise common childhood diseases and illnesses
Identify symptoms of common childhood diseases and/or illnesses
Identify treatments for common childhood diseases and/or illnesses
Recognise common causes of childhood injuries
Explore strategies and safe practices to promote child health and wellbeing in specific environments
Identify the importance of effective treatment of otitis media for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children
Explore how environmental factors can influence common diseases, illnesses or conditions
Recognise the importance of hygiene strategies in fostering healthy habits in children
Explore the role of organisations in preventing the spread of childhood diseases and illnesses
Recognise reasons why children use health services
Identify the rights of children in relation to health care
Identify healthcare policies and rules that protect children’s healthcare rights
Recognise safe behaviours for accessing or providing personal information to health services
Identify the costs of health care for children
Recognise the importance of children being involved in their own health care
Identify health services that support children and families from diverse backgrounds
Identify health services that support Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children and families
Identify how different people work together to help children with serious or ongoing health conditions
Identify the importance of providing Culturally safe health services for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children and families

Locate reliable information on health resources for children
