Life Skills for Stage 4/5

Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.

Health and safety of children
Screening programs and immunisations
  • Recognise healthcare options for expectant mothers

  • Recognise prenatal screening programs for expectant mothers

  • Identify the purpose of screening processes for newborns

  • Recognise how immunisation helps prevent disease and illness in the community

  • Identify how childhood immunisations are recorded

  • Explore the factors that influence access to immunisation and screening programs

Diseases, illnesses and conditions
  • Recognise common childhood diseases and illnesses

  • Identify symptoms of common childhood diseases and/or illnesses

  • Identify treatments for common childhood diseases and/or illnesses

  • Recognise common causes of childhood injuries

  • Explore strategies and safe practices to promote child health and wellbeing in specific environments

  • Identify the importance of effective treatment of otitis media for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children

  • Explore how environmental factors can influence common diseases, illnesses or conditions

  • Recognise the importance of hygiene strategies in fostering healthy habits in children

Health services
  • Recognise reasons why children use health services
