7–10Child Studies 7–10 Syllabus
The new Child Studies 7–10 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2028 and will replace the Child Studies 7–10 Syllabus (2019).
2026 and 2027 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2028 – Start teaching new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.
Content
Life Skills
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Identify what it means to have positive mental health
Explore the benefits of positive mental health
Identify ways to support positive mental health in children
Identify the strategies or skills children need to support their own mental health and wellbeing
Identify local services that support children with their mental health and wellbeing
Identify ways families, schools and communities can help children feel included, safe and valued
Explore how a government initiative or organisation supports children’s mental health and wellbeing
Identify programs or strategies that support the emotional and Cultural wellbeing of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children
Explore ways children can provide input into health and wellbeing programs in schools or communities
Explore ways families and communities can support children to respond to life’s changes and challenges
Recognise how factors like sleep, healthy food, exercise and relationships help children feel good and stay healthy
Recognise why it is important for children to ask for help when they need support
Explore ways to support children to identify and appropriately express their emotions
Explore ways to support children to develop skills needed for social interactions
Recognise how Cultural healing Practices support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families
Recognise how media can affect children’s feelings and wellbeing
