7–10Child Studies 7–10 Syllabus
The new Child Studies 7–10 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2028 and will replace the Child Studies 7–10 Syllabus (2019).
2026 and 2027 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2028 – Start teaching new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.
Content
Life Skills
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Recognise the types of postnatal care provided for the parent and child
Recognise how different cultural practices support children from birth to 5 years
Identify ways Cultural Knowledges support the growth and development of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children from birth to 5 years
Identify the importance of education for children from birth to 5 years
Recognise milestones from birth to 5 years
Recognise the different people children form relationships with from birth to 5 years
Identify how family and caregiver relationships support a child’s development
Identify how a child’s experiences affect their thinking and learning
Identify ways to support a child’s speech and language development
Identify the benefits for a child of learning a different language
Recognise ways Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children can develop their Cultural identity
Identify factors that affect a child’s physical growth and movement from birth to 5 years
Explore the importance of early identification and intervention for developmental delays in children
Explore a program or strategy that aims to improve outcomes for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children
Recognise environments or spaces designed for children from birth to 5 years
Identify ways spaces can be set up to support inclusion and participation for children
Recognise features of play environments that promote safety for children
Recognise skills and strategies that support the safety of children from birth to 5 years
Plan safe play experiences for children that support inclusion and participation
Identify types of changes to the home environment that support safety for children from birth to 5 years
Identify daily care needs that support the health of newborns and babies
Explore how routines support child growth and development from birth to 5 years
