7–10Child Studies 7–10 Syllabus
The new Child Studies 7–10 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2028 and will replace the Child Studies 7–10 Syllabus (2019).
2026 and 2027 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2028 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.
Content
Life Skills
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Recognise the reasons why families require early childhood education and care services
Identify types of early childhood education and care options
Identify informal childcare options
Identify factors that influence families when selecting early childhood education and care services
Recognise ways families can get support to pay for early childhood education and care services
Explore changes in early childhood education and care over time
Recognise the needs of children in early childhood education or care services
Recognise the role early childhood educators or care services play in meeting the needs of children, including children from diverse backgrounds
Identify how early childhood education and care services support children to stay safe
Recognise how early childhood education and care services support children to develop social or emotional skills
Identify ways early childhood education and care services respect and include cultural beliefs and practices
Identify the role allied health services play in supporting children with diverse needs
Explore the rules and laws that early childhood education and care services must follow
Explore learning opportunities that early childhood education and care services provide
Explore how early childhood education and care services engage with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Cultural Knowledges
Plan an activity or experience for children in early childhood education and care services
Explore ways families, schools and early childhood education and care services support children to move on to the next stage of education
Recognise careers that involve working with children
Identify career opportunities in the early childhood education and care services in the local community
