7–10Child Studies 7–10 Syllabus
The new Child Studies 7–10 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2028 and will replace the Child Studies 7–10 Syllabus (2019).
2026 and 2027 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2028 – Start teaching new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.
Content
Life Skills
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Recognise ways family support a child’s growth and development
Recognise the costs of supporting a child’s growth and development
Identify supports that contribute to a child’s cultural awareness and sense of identity
Explore Aboriginal Kinship structures and how they support the growth and development of children
Explore community groups or organisations that support child growth and development
Recognise feeding options for newborns
Identify the benefits and challenges of feeding options for newborns
Recognise nutritional food choices for children
Identify factors that influence children’s nutrition
Identify common food intolerances and allergies
Plan a nutritional meal suitable for a child
Identify physical activity guidelines for children
Identify types of physical activity recommended for children
Explore the ways families and communities can support children to participate in physical activity
Recognise literacy and numeracy skills used by children in everyday contexts
Recognise the importance of literacy or numeracy in development
Identify ways to support children to develop literacy or numeracy skills, including through play
Identify how caregivers can support literacy or numeracy at different stages of a child’s development
Identify ways children may communicate, including in their home languages
Explore the importance of cultural perspectives in literacy and numeracy development
Recognise the importance of Cultural perspectives in supporting the development of literacy and numeracy for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children
Explore community resources or services that support literacy or numeracy development in children
Recognise reasons why children use technology
Identify types of technology and/or media used by children
Identify safe ways for children to engage with technology
Identify how assistive technology is used to support children and foster inclusion and participation
Recognise ways technology and media can influence a child’s learning and development at different stages
