7–10Child Studies 7–10 Syllabus
The new Child Studies 7–10 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2028 and will replace the Child Studies 7–10 Syllabus (2019).
2026 and 2027 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2028 – Start teaching new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.
Content
Life Skills
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Recognise challenges that affect how children grow and develop in different parts of the world
Compare the health and wellbeing of children in different countries
Explore reasons why children’s health is different outside Australia
Explore how global problems can affect children’s health and wellbeing
Recognise how caring for the planet can help improve children’s health around the world
Recognise global strategies that help support children’s health and wellbeing
Demonstrate respect for diverse groups around the world
Recognise how respecting children’s diversity supports their wellbeing
Explore why it is important to listen to children about issues that affect them worldwide
Recognise types of child care and educational settings for children around the world
Recognise differences in access to education and child care in different parts of the world
Identify how education helps children learn about and value diverse cultures
Explore ways children can learn about cultural traditions through play
Identify differences in child care or education between Australia and other countries
Identify the factors that could affect education for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children and Indigenous children around the world
Explore cultural activities from another country
Plan an activity to celebrate a culture with children
Recognise how access to food in different countries affects a child’s health
Recognise types of technology used by children
Explore how technology connects children around the world
