K–10Classical Languages K–10 Syllabus
The new Classical Languages K–10 Syllabus (2022) is to be taught from 2024.
2023 Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus. Schools have the option to start teaching the new syllabus where there is not an existing course for a language.
2024 Start teaching new syllabus for:
- Schools with a K–6 language program
- Mandatory 100 hours of a Language in Years 7–10
Students who commenced a 100-hour or 200-hour elective course in 2023 may continue to study that course in 2024.
Content
Stage 1
- CL1-UND-01
recognises and responds to information to demonstrate understanding of simple texts with modelled language
Recognise modelled vocabulary and phrases in simple texts
Associate vocabulary with known actions, people, places, objects and ideas
Use teacher cues and visual stimuli to support comprehension
Respond to simple questions such as who, what, where, when in the target language or in English
Recognise that words can exist in different forms
Use knowledge of modelled vocabulary and phrases
Recognise and reproduce the sounds and intonation patterns of modelled vocabulary and phrases
Recognise sound–symbol correspondences and reproduce symbols and modelled vocabulary in the target language writing system
