K–10Classical Languages K–10 Syllabus
The new Classical Languages K–10 Syllabus (2022) is to be implemented from 2024.
2024 – Start teaching new syllabus for:
- Schools with a K–6 language program
- Mandatory 100 hours of a Language in Years 7–10
Students who commenced a 100-hour or 200-hour elective course in 2023 may continue to study that course in 2024.
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts.
Content
Early Stage 1
- CLE-UND-01
recognises and responds to information to demonstrate understanding of simple texts with modelled vocabulary, actions or visuals
Listen to, read or view simple texts by participating in shared activities
Connect vocabulary with actions, people, places and objects
Respond by following simple commands or repeating words seen or heard in texts
Recognise the meaning of modelled high-frequency vocabulary and of vocabulary in the target language that is similar in English or in other languages
Recognise and reproduce the sounds and intonation patterns of the target language
Connect symbols in the target language with familiar sounds
Recognise that the target language writing system is different from English
