K–10Classical Languages K–10 Syllabus
The new Classical Languages K–10 Syllabus (2022) is to be implemented from 2024.
2024 – Start teaching new syllabus for:
- Schools with a K–6 language program
- Mandatory 100 hours of a Language in Years 7–10
Students who commenced a 100-hour or 200-hour elective course in 2023 may continue to study that course in 2024.
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts.
Content
Stage 1
- CL1-ICU-01
identifies aspects of the target language and culture, and their own language(s) and culture(s)
Identify aspects of daily life and belief systems in the stories of the target language culture
Make connections between stories of the target language-speaking people, themselves and others
Notice the influence of the target language on English through vocabulary such as cognates, derivations and direct borrowings
