Stage 3

Creating texts in Auslan

Content is provided for:

  • Additional: students learning Auslan as an additional language
  • Prior learning/experience: students learning Auslan with knowledge and/or experience from in or outside the classroom
  • First: students learning Auslan as their first language.
Vocabulary, grammar and text structures

  • Communicate about daily lives, social activities and school subjects

  • Recognise and use the 3 types of depicting signs

  • Recognise the role of non-manual features in clauses

  • Identify how signers establish spatial locations with depicting signs

  • Identify how signers show constructed action

  • Identify how verbs are modified to add additional meaning

  • Identify characteristic features of narratives and simple informative texts

First
  • Communicate about their personal world

  • Recognise and use the 3 types of depicting signs

  • Identify verb types based on their integration of space

  • Use features of Auslan to connect clauses equally, unequally or through composite clause structure
