Life Skills for Stage 4/5

Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.

Understanding texts in Auslan

Content is provided for:

  • Additional: students learning Auslan as an additional language
  • Prior learning/experience: students learning Auslan with knowledge and/or experience from in or outside the classroom
  • First: students learning Auslan as their first language.
Accessing texts
Additional
  • Understand short, familiar words that are fingerspelled

  • Engage with simple texts

  • Express likes or dislikes in response to elements of texts

Prior
  • Understand words that are fingerspelled

  • Access information from texts

  • Engage with a range of texts

  • View a variety of texts

First
  • Understand short messages conveyed using Auslan and/or fingerspelling

  • Express likes or dislikes in response to texts

  • Access informative and imaginative information within texts

Responding to texts
Additional
  • Respond in Auslan using body language, gestures, touch, visual expressions and/or words

  • Produce an approximate version of a familiar sign that is modelled in a signed text

  • Engage in modelled translation of objects labelled in Auslan and English

  • Recognise that an object can have at least 2 different names, one in each language

Prior
  • Respond to questions about informative texts

  • Respond to creative or imaginative texts

  • Express likes or dislikes in response to imaginative texts

  • Explore differences in words in Auslan and English

  • Engage in the translation of words between Auslan and English

First
  • Respond to a range of texts in formal and informal contexts

  • Respond to information in texts
