K–10Auslan K–10 Syllabus (2023)
The new Auslan K–10 Syllabus (2023) is to be implemented from 2026.
2025 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2025 – Option to start teaching
2026 – Start teaching the new syllabus for schools that choose to offer Auslan:
- within a K–6 language program
- for the mandatory 100 hours of language study in Years 7–10
- as Stage 5 language elective
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.
Content
Life Skills
- AULS-CRE-01creates texts in Auslan in a range of contexts 
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Content is provided for:
- Additional: students learning Auslan as an additional language
- Prior learning/experience: students learning Auslan with knowledge and/or experience from in or outside the classroom
- First: students learning Auslan as their Loading .
- Identify words that are represented by common depicting Loading 
- Explore features and structures of text 
- Loading to and use elements of Auslan grammar 
- Describe handshapes or Loading that represent a word in English 
- Use nouns, adjectives and verbs in Auslan 
- Explore Loading of Auslan 
- Engage in simple exchanges 
- Explore ways to communicate information about their world to the class 
- Loading informative texts about themselves 
- Explore ways to communicate information to others 
- Create informative texts that reflect real people, places or experiences 
- Create imaginative and expressive texts 
- Create simple bilingual texts of words, familiar expressions or phrases 
- Create informative texts 
- Create imaginative and expressive texts for familiar and/or unfamiliar contexts 
- Create informative bilingual text of words, familiar expressions or phrases in familiar and/or unfamiliar contexts
