K–10Aboriginal Languages K–10 Syllabus
The new Aboriginal Languages K–10 (2022) syllabus is to be implemented from 2024.
2024 – Start teaching new syllabus for:
- Schools with a K–6 program
- Mandatory 100 hours of a Language in Years 7–10
Students who commenced the 100-hour or 200-hour elective course in 2023 may continue to study the Aboriginal Languages K–10 Syllabus (2003) in 2024.
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts.
Content
Stage 4
- AL4-COM-01
composes texts in the target language, using a range of linguistic structures for different audiences
Content is provided for:
- Additional: Language Revival – students learning the target language as an additional language
- Prior: Language Revival – students with significant prior learning and/or experience in the target language
- First: students continuing to learn their First Language as the target language.
Compose informative, persuasive and imaginative texts in spoken, written, visual or multimodal forms for a variety of purposes and audiences
Compose informative, persuasive and imaginative texts in a variety of formats for a range of purposes and audiences
Compose a range of spoken, written, visual and/or multimodal texts involving real or imagined contexts and characters
Compose bilingual texts and resources for language learning
Create bilingual texts and resources for language learning
Create short bilingual/multilingual texts for language learning
Transcribe, translate and/or interpret texts from the target language into English and vice versa
Apply features of the target language sound system, including pitch, accent, rhythm and intonation
Recognise and apply elements of the target language grammar and sentence patterns
Apply the target language pronunciation and intonation patterns, and punctuation
Recognise and use elements of the target language grammar and sentence structure to express ideas
Apply the target language sound system, representing these patterns with an expanding repertoire of written symbols and conventions
Understand and use elements of the target language grammar and sentence structure to express ideas
