K–10Aboriginal Languages K–10 Syllabus
The new Aboriginal Languages K–10 (2022) syllabus is to be implemented from 2024.
2024 – Start teaching new syllabus for:
- Schools with a K–6 program
- Mandatory 100 hours of a Language in Years 7–10
Students who commenced the 100-hour or 200-hour elective course in 2023 may continue to study the Aboriginal Languages K–10 Syllabus (2003) in 2024.
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts.
Content
Stage 3
- AL3-COM-01
composes texts in the target language using a series of sentences
Content is provided for:
- Additional: Language Revival – students learning the target language as an additional language
- Prior: Language Revival – students with significant prior learning and/or experience in the target language
- First: students continuing to learn their First Language as the target language.
Compose informative and imaginative texts in the target language, using scaffolded models for a range of purposes and audiences
Compose informative and imaginative texts for a variety of purposes and audiences
Compose a range of spoken, written and/or multimodal texts
Create bilingual texts, such as signages, notices, games, displays, websites or word banks, for the school community
Create bilingual texts and resources for their own language learning and the school community
Compose short bilingual/multilingual texts
Reproduce pronunciation, intonation and stress, recognising the relationship between sounds, words and meaning
Understand and use basic grammatical structures
Apply the target language sound system, including variations in tone, stress and phrasing
Understand and use basic structures and features of the target language grammar to elaborate meaning
Apply the target language sound system, including variations in tone, stress and phrasing
Understand and apply a range of grammatical structures in the target language
