K–10Aboriginal Languages K–10 Syllabus
The new Aboriginal Languages K–10 (2022) syllabus is to be implemented from 2024.
2024 – Start teaching new syllabus for:
- Schools with a K–6 program
- Mandatory 100 hours of a Language in Years 7–10
Students who commenced the 100-hour or 200-hour elective course in 2023 may continue to study the Aboriginal Languages K–10 Syllabus (2003) in 2024.
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts.
Content
Stage 2
- AL2-COM-01
composes texts in the target language using familiar words and expressions
Content is provided for:
- Additional: Language Revival – students learning the target language as an additional language
- Prior: Language Revival – students with significant prior learning and/or experience in the target language
- First: students continuing to learn their First Language as the target language.
Compose texts using familiar words, formulaic expressions and modelled language

Create bilingual texts for familiar environments, such as descriptions and signages
Create bilingual texts such as signages or notices, digital picture dictionaries and word banks for the classroom and school community

Reproduce pronunciation and intonation in the target language
Understand and identify elements of grammar and sentence structure
Understand the intonation and phrasing patterns of the target language
