The new Aboriginal Studies 7–10 Syllabus (2024) is to be implemented from 2027.
2025 and 2026 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2027 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts.
Content
Life Skills
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
The school-developed option must not overlap or duplicate significantly any of the content studied in another syllabus, including the Aboriginal Studies Stage 6 Syllabus.
Only ONE school-developed option can be studied within a 100-hour or 200-hour course.
Students:
Choose a topic
Identify key areas to investigate
Independently or collaboratively develop a plan for the investigation
Consult respectfully with Aboriginal Peoples and Community(ies)
Locate information using reliable sources
Select information from sources
Evaluate and order information
Select an appropriate medium to present information
Share information with consideration for purpose and audience
Communicate ideas about the topic using language appropriate to purpose and audience, through oral, visual, written or multimodal texts
Explore the selected topic using local examples where possible
Share how the selected topic has impacted or contributed to Aboriginal Peoples’ lives and Aboriginal histories and Cultures
