The new Aboriginal Studies 7–10 Syllabus (2024) is to be implemented from 2027 and will replace the Aboriginal Studies 7–10 Syllabus (2020).
2025 and 2026 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2027 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.
Content
Life Skills
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
- Stories that have personal interest or importance 
- The range of Aboriginal Languages and dialects, including Aboriginal English and handtalk 
- Examples of Aboriginal Peoples' oral expressions 
- The importance of oral expression in the maintenance of Aboriginal Cultures and heritages 
- Ways in which invasion and colonisation have changed Aboriginal Peoples' oral and written expressions 
- Ways in which information and communication technologies have affected Aboriginal Peoples' and Torres Strait Islander Peoples' oral and written expressions 
- Dreaming stories and Oral histories that have been adapted to written forms 
- Use of Aboriginal Languages and their written forms 
- Written texts that hold personal interest or importance 
- Texts written by Aboriginal Peoples 
- Written texts as a way of maintaining Aboriginal Knowledges and Cultures 
- Written texts as a way of sharing Aboriginal Knowledges and Cultures with non-Aboriginal people 
- Oral and written communication as forms of self-expression 
- The impact of Aboriginal Peoples’ personal stories on individuals 
- The impact of Aboriginal Peoples' stories on society 
- Use of information and communication technologies in the adaptation of the oral and written expressions of Aboriginal Peoples 
- The meaning of individual ownership 
- Familiar types of shared ownership 
- Respect for ownership 
- The difference between ownership and Custodianship 
- Custodianship as it relates to Aboriginal Cultures
