K–10Auslan K–10 Syllabus (2023)
The new Auslan K–10 Syllabus (2023) is to be implemented from 2026.
2025 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2025 – Option to start teaching
2026 – Start teaching the new syllabus for schools that choose to offer Auslan:
- within a K–6 language program
- for the mandatory 100 hours of language study in Years 7–10
- as Stage 5 language elective
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.

- AU5-UND-01
analyses how texts represent information and/or perspectives and responds in Auslan and/or English
Content is provided for:
- Additional: students learning Auslan as an additional language
- Prior learning/experience: students learning Auslan with knowledge and/or experience from in or outside the classroom
- First: students learning Auslan as their Loading .
Identify how a range of creative and imaginative texts use expressive forms and signed choices to create meaning
Summarise and examine texts
Analyse information and/or perspectives and how they are represented in increasingly complex texts
Explain and infer a range of cultural values, themes and ideas in a range of creative and imaginative texts
Analyse and evaluate how information and perspectives are represented in a range of increasingly complex texts
Analyse the choice of perspective, character and observer space in a text
Analyse a Loading to identify when, how and why the signer shifts into a different role in Loading
Analyse and evaluate information and perspectives and how they are represented in a range of familiar and unfamiliar texts
Critically evaluate different types of creative and performative texts to explain how specific techniques and Loading are used for different effects
Loading to a range of texts and compare their responses with those of their peers
Translate familiar texts and consider the role of Loading when translating
Respond to a range of texts on social and cultural issues
Compare interpretations of different types of texts that invite consideration of values, themes and ideas
Translate familiar and unfamiliar texts composed for different purposes and audiences between Auslan and English
Respond critically to texts on a range of social and cultural issues including those of interest and significance to the Loading
Respond to different types of texts that invite consideration of values, themes and ideas and involve different modes of expression
Translate complex texts composed for different purposes and audiences between Auslan and English
