The new Physical Activity and Sports Science 7–10 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2028 and will replace the Physical Activity and Sports Studies 7–10 Syllabus (2019).
2026 and 2027 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2028 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.
Content
Life Skills
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Engage with personal technology when participating in physical activity or sport
Explore technology used in a range of physical activity or sporting contexts
Identify how technology has improved officiating, performance, participation or spectator engagement in sport
Outline how technology enhances the safety of athletes or officials
Explore how the use of technology may cause an unfair advantage in physical activity or sport
Explore the impacts of technological advancements in physical activity or sporting contexts
Discuss the range of media used in everyday contexts
Engage with a range of news reports relating to different sports
Identify how the media is used to communicate information about sports
Explore how the media can popularise a sport or athlete
Explore how athletes engage with the media and how this can influence perceptions of the sport or the athlete
Identify unfair or misleading representations of athletes or sports in the media
Explore how unfair or misleading representations in the media can affect athletes, sports, spectators or the community
Explore how athlete safety can be enhanced through the media
Explore how sport can use the media to promote an awareness of societal issues
Identify ways people can be included and excluded in physical activity or sport
Identify and use strategies to promote inclusion in physical activity or sport
Identify challenges faced by some population groups in sporting contexts
Explore instances where people have broken the rules to create an advantage in sport
Explore the evolving role of women in a range of sporting contexts
Explore the positive influence that media coverage has on public perceptions, sponsorship, participation rates or spectating of women’s sports
