The new Physical Activity and Sports Science 7–10 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2028 and will replace the Physical Activity and Sports Studies 7–10 Syllabus (2019).
2026 and 2027 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2028 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.
Content
Life Skills
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Explore leisure and recreational activities that involve physical activity
Identify preferred active forms of leisure and recreation
Identify reasons for participating in active forms of leisure and recreation
Identify reasons people might experience challenges with participating in active forms of leisure and recreation
Identify the suitability of active forms of leisure and recreational activities for a diverse range of people
Identify perceptions of active forms of leisure and recreation in the local community or across different ethnic and cultural groups
Explore Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ leisure or recreational pursuits that draw on Cultural Practices and Knowledges of Country and Place
Explore how engagement in active forms of leisure and recreation may change over a person’s lifetime
Recognise leisure and recreational settings in the local community and beyond
Identify features of an accessible leisure or recreational setting
Explore an initiative designed to promote engagement with an active leisure or recreational setting
Demonstrate strategies to promote safety in leisure or recreational settings at school or in the community
