The new Physical Activity and Sports Science 7–10 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2028 and will replace the Physical Activity and Sports Studies 7–10 Syllabus (2019).
2026 and 2027 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2028 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.
Content
Life Skills
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Some students with disability may require adjustments or modifications, including the use of assistive devices to participate in movement skills and experiences.
Identify how fitness supports everyday living
Identify ways to improve fitness
Recognise the role of fitness in physical activity or sport
Explore the role of fitness in enhancing participation, performance or safety
Identify factors that may affect fitness levels or performance
Recognise the components of fitness
Explore a component of fitness of a specific sport
Identify strategies used to improve components of fitness of a specific sport
Participate in an activity that improves a component of fitness
Identify the key elements of the Frequency, Intensity, Time and Type (FITT) principle
Explore safety considerations when planning a physical fitness program
Plan and participate in aspects of a training program that aims to improve fitness
Recognise why the body needs to recover after physical activity or sport
Explore recovery strategies that can be used in physical activity or sport
Recognise how recovery strategies benefit the athlete
Demonstrate a recovery strategy in physical activity or sport
Use various methods to measure or monitor fitness progress
Demonstrate balance and stability in daily activities
Participate in movements that enhance balance and stability
Identify a physical activity or sport that demonstrates balance and stability
Recognise how to apply force when engaging in a sporting movement
