The new Physical Activity and Sports Science 7–10 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2028 and will replace the Physical Activity and Sports Studies 7–10 Syllabus (2019).
2026 and 2027 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2028 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.

Some students with disability may require adjustments or modifications, including the use of assistive devices to participate in movement skills and experiences.
Investigate how proficiency in fundamental movement skill execution can influence participation and success in a range of physical activities and sports
Analyse specialised movement skills that are considered essential for successful participation in specific physical activities and sports, and rehearse these in a range of movement contexts
Participate in emerging forms of physical activity and sport, applying fundamental and specialised movement skills
Recognise the stages of skill acquisition in a variety of physical activities and sports to identify reasons for performance errors and offer solutions for improvement
Describe and participate in a variety of practice methods used to rehearse movement skills
Apply and refine movement concepts in a range of physical activities and sports
Explain and demonstrate how improvisation can enhance performance, including by modifying technique, movement skills and movement concepts
Distinguish between a strategy and a tactic
Investigate and transfer performance-improving strategies and tactics across a range of gameplay contexts including target, net and court, striking and fielding, and territory games
Examine the importance of collaboration, player positions, roles and responsibilities when implementing strategies and tactics
Design, implement and reflect on strategies and tactics that enhance defence, attack and deception
Use personal, peer and teacher feedback to refine movement skills, concepts, strategies and tactics
Provide constructive feedback on movement skills, concepts, strategies and tactics
Use technology and other sources of information to model, inform and refine movement skills, concepts, strategies and tactics
Evaluate and demonstrate how leadership can be used in physical activity and sport to encourage participation, improve performance and enhance team cohesion
Discuss how movement concepts, communication, skill execution, strategies and tactics work in combination to improve performance
Set goals and explain how goal-setting can enhance performance or increase engagement in physical activity and sport
Demonstrate and explain the purpose of a warm-up and cool-down relevant to specific forms of physical activity and sport
Describe physical, environmental and health factors that influence safe participation in physical activity and sport
Investigate the influence of protective equipment and rules on performance and safe participation in physical activity and sport
Investigate and apply modifications to rules, equipment, movement skills and strategies that may be required to increase safety and participation in physical activity and sport
Describe and demonstrate an understanding of rules and etiquette through participation in sport
Critique and apply guidelines and policies for safe and ethical participation in physical activity and sport
Explain and demonstrate how integrity, fair play, camaraderie and respect can be applied to enhance physical activity and sport
Create written texts to evaluate movement concepts and explain approaches for maintaining and improving skill execution
Use subject-specific language to communicate skills and movement concepts
