K–10Mathematics K–10 Syllabus (2022)
The new Mathematics K–10 Syllabus (2022) is to be implemented from 2024 and replaces the Mathematics K–10 Syllabus (2012).
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts.

Stage 4
- MAO-WM-01
develops understanding and fluency in mathematics through exploring and connecting mathematical concepts, choosing and applying mathematical techniques to solve problems, and communicating their thinking and reasoning coherently and clearly
- MA4-PYT-C-01
applies Pythagoras’ theorem to solve problems in various contexts
Identify and describe the hypotenuse as the side opposite the right Loading and the longest side in any right-angled Loading
Establish the relationship between the Loading of the sides of a right-angled triangle
Use the relationship to record and define Loading both algebraically and in words
Apply Pythagoras’ theorem to find the unknown length of a side in a right-angled triangle, giving answers in an exact form or as Loading approximations
Apply the Loading of Pythagoras’ theorem to establish whether a triangle is right angled
Solve practical problems involving Pythagoras’ theorem before exploring a variety of related problems
Justify whether a Loading of 3 Loading is a Pythagorean triad
