K–10Modern Languages K–10 Syllabus
The new Modern Languages K–10 Syllabus (2022) is to be implemented from 2024.
2024 – Start teaching new syllabus for:
- Schools with a K–6 language program
- Mandatory 100 hours of a Language in Years 7–10
Students who commenced a 100-hour or 200-hour elective course in 2023 may continue to study that course in 2024.
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts.

Stage 3
- ML3-CRT-01
creates a range of texts for familiar communicative purposes by using culturally appropriate rehearsed language
Create informative texts appropriate to context, purpose and audience, sharing information about familiar themes
Create imaginative texts appropriate to context, purpose and audience using a series of sequenced sentences and visuals to express ideas on familiar themes
Use pronunciation, intonation patterns, stress and/or rhythms to create spoken texts
Use sound–symbol correspondences to create written texts
Use relevant vocabulary, formulaic expressions or modelled phrases from familiar themes to create texts
Use a range of modelled sentence and grammatical structures to create texts
Select structures and features of the target language writing system to create written texts
Use language appropriate to cultural practices to create texts
