7–10Visual and Motion Design 7–10 Syllabus (2025)
The new Visual and Motion Design 7–10 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2028 and will replace the Visual Design 7–10 Syllabus (2004).
2026 and 2027 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2028 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.
Content
Life Skills
- VMDLS-CHC-01
identifies how meaning has been created in design artworks
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Identify that designers can create different types of design artworks
Explore the practice of designers or groups of designers from a range of cultures or contexts, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander designers
Identify the ways a designer represents an idea or intention in their design artwork
Recognise how a design artwork communicates an idea to an audience or provides a solution to a challenge
Explore design artworks from a range of forms, styles or contexts
Recognise that design artworks by Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander designers are representations of Cultural identity and connections to Country and/or Place
Recognise ideas or interests communicated in a design artwork
Recognise that design artworks can represent different times or places
Consider how designers explore user needs when making design decisions
Identify how audiences experience, consume or use design artworks
Identify that audiences make judgements when engaging with design artworks
Identify how technological advancements or digital media platforms have influenced the way audiences access and engage with design artworks
