The new Aquatic Technology 7–10 Syllabus (2024) is to be implemented from 2027.
2025 and 2026 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2027 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts.
Content
Life Skills
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
The following aquatic ecosystems are suggestions only. Teachers may choose a different aquatic ecosystem to meet student interest or ability. Students may investigate one or more ecosystem, part of an ecosystem, or elements of the content as appropriate.
- Antarctica
- Coral reefs
- Deep sea
- Estuaries
- Inland water bodies
- Intertidal shores
- Kelp beds and forests
- Mangroves
- Rivers
- Seagrass beds
- Wetlands
In-person or virtual field trips may be considered to support investigation of the chosen ecosystems. Investigations can be undertaken individually or as a collaborative group project. The aquatic ecosystem investigation should be a different ecosystem to the Local area study. Conservation programs and local community groups may be useful sources of information for some case studies. Where appropriate, opportunities for practical activities should be considered.
