The new Aquatic Technology 7–10 Syllabus (2024) is to be implemented from 2027.
2025 and 2026 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2027 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts.
Content
Life Skills
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Recognise local fishing environments
Identify and record the range of fish species found in the local area
Explore Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ fishing Practices
Identify NSW’s recreational fishing rules
Identify a range of fishing tools, equipment or methods
Explore how technology can be used in recreational fishing
Follow a sequence to prepare hand spools and rig fishing rods
Identify methods for locating, storing and preparing bait
Participate in recreational fishing opportunities using appropriate tools and equipment
Identify potential hazards when participating in fishing activities
Apply safe practices when participating in fishing activities
Recognise familiar types of seafood eaten
Explore Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities’ Knowledges on Cultural fishing
Identify a range of methods used to harvest seafood
Compare fishing tools and equipment for harvesting
Investigate how fishing impacts aquatic environments
Explore the use of technology in protecting aquatic environments
Recognise the role of fisheries in local communities
Identify the benefits of harvest strategies on aquatic environments
Explore employment opportunities associated with the commercial fishing industry
