K–10Modern Languages K–10 Syllabus
The new Modern Languages K–10 Syllabus (2022) is to be implemented from 2024.
2024 – Start teaching new syllabus for:
- Schools with a K–6 language program
- Mandatory 100 hours of a Language in Years 7–10
Students who commenced a 100-hour or 200-hour elective course in 2023 may continue to study that course in 2024.
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts.
Content
Life Skills
- MLLS-CRT-01
creates texts for a range of purposes using culturally appropriate modelled language
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Participate in the creation of texts using known words or phrases
Create texts using modelled language and/or images
Create texts to convey information, experiences or opinions
Use sounds and expressions of the target language when creating spoken texts
Identify vocabulary, grammatical structures and/or text features of the target language
Create texts using text features appropriate to the target language
Explore forming script, characters or symbols in the target language
Follow a scaffold to create a text using the target language writing system
Use images, signs or symbols to create texts that demonstrate an understanding of culture
Create texts by selecting and/or using modelled language appropriate to cultural practices
