7–10Geography Elective 7–10 Syllabus (2025)
The new Geography Elective 7–10 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2028 and will replace the Geography Elective 7–10 Syllabus (2019).
2026 and 2027 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2028 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.
Content
Life Skills
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Geographical concepts are to be integrated throughout the course where appropriate.
Features or characteristics of places
Places people live and belong to and why they are important
How weather and natural events affect people in different places
Location and distribution of extreme environments
Range of human activities across a range of spaces
Ways people manage the space in which they live
Features or characteristics of diverse environments
Relationships between plants, animals or humans and the environment
Geographical issues that influence environments
Interconnections between people, places or environments
How environments influence where people live
Relationships between people’s activities and connections to environments
Responses and actions undertaken by individuals, communities, organisations and governments
Formation of connections on different scales, from local to national to global
Management of geographical issues, from local to national to global
Ability of environments to support life for the future
Strategies to reduce the impact of natural and human processes
Factors involved in the care and management of environments
