The new Geography Elective 7–10 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2028 and will replace the Geography Elective 7–10 Syllabus (2019).
2026 and 2027 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2028 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.

Special significance and meaning of place for people
Effect of atmospheric and geophysical factors on communities living in a range of environments
Influence of latitude on the location and spatial distribution of extreme environments
Ways people organise and manage the spaces in which they live
Geographical issues arising from competing uses of space, such as the use of oceans for economic, recreational and cultural purposes
Significance of diverse environments in supporting life and providing resources
Important interrelationships of adaptations of plants, animals and humans to environments
Function and importance of environments and biodiversity hotspots
Quality of environments and the key issues that affect them
Importance of interconnection between people, places and environments
Social, economic, political and environmental changes leading to migration and consequences for the place of origin and the destination
Social, economic, political and environmental factors influencing spatial variations in the Asia-Pacific region
Interactions between geographical processes on different scales
The contribution of local community responses to national and international change
Changes on a global level can affect local environments and people
Management and protection of people, places and environments on local, regional, national and global scales
