The new Geography Elective 7–10 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2028 and will replace the Geography Elective 7–10 Syllabus (2019).
2026 and 2027 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2028 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.

in Stage 4 teachers may adjust the Stage 5 outcomes as appropriate to the needs of students in Years 7 and 8

Influence of cultural diversity within the Asia-Pacific region on Australian identity and society
Historical factors that have shaped the Asia-Pacific region’s current geographical and cultural landscapes
Demographic characteristics, urbanisation and settlement patterns across the Asia-Pacific region
Spatial variations in development, income and living standards across the Asia-Pacific region
Major trade routes, including maritime choke points and land-based routes, and their impact on economic interdependence
Patterns of production, consumption and trade, and how these link countries economically
Regional organisations and their role in promoting cooperation in response to shared challenges, including climate change, inequality and sustainable development
Investigation of at least ONE country in the Asia-Pacific region.
Features and characteristics of the physical environment in the selected country
Social, economic and political characteristics, including demographic trends and settlement patterns of the selected country
A contemporary geographical issue of regional or global significance, including causes and consequences related to the selected country
Responses to the issue from individuals, groups and governments in the selected country
