Life Skills for Stage 4/5

Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.

School-developed option

This option provides schools with the opportunity to develop students’ geographical knowledge and understanding of a particular location and/or area of inquiry that caters for their needs and interests. This study also provides an opportunity to investigate a geographical issue in depth and to undertake fieldwork within the local area or at an accessible location. Students use geographical inquiry skills to investigate the interactions between people and environments and the civics and citizenship aspects of a selected study.

The school-developed option should focus on ONE specific area of interest building on prior knowledge or addressing new content of either physical geography or human geography or a combination of both.

Content in Thinking and working geographically outlines how geographical concepts, inquiry skills and tools are to be integrated with the content in this focus area.
