The new Photography, Film and Digital Media 7–10 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2028 and will replace the Photographic and Digital Media 7–10 Syllabus (2004).
2026 and 2027 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2028 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.

Life Skills
- PFMLS-CHC-01
identifies how meaning has been created in photomedia artworks
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Identify that photomedia artists can create different types of photomedia artworks
Explore the practice of photomedia artists from a range of cultures or contexts, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander photomedia artists
Identify the ways a photomedia artist represents ideas in their artworks
Identify the people, narratives, events or times represented in a photomedia artwork
Explore photomedia artworks from a range of forms, styles or contexts
Recognise that photomedia works by Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait photomedia artists are representations of Cultural identity and connections to Country and/or Place
Identify the theme or message communicated in a photomedia artwork
Recognise that photomedia artworks can represent different times or places
Identify how audiences can have varied responses to photomedia artworks
Acknowledge that audiences make judgements when engaging with photomedia artworks
Consider how technological advancements or digital media platforms have influenced the way audiences access and engage with photomedia
