The new Personal Development, Health and Physical Education 7−10 Syllabus (2024) is to be implemented from 2027.
2025 and 2026 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2027 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts.
Content
Life Skills
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Recognise personal characteristics, strengths and abilities
Recognise and respect the diversity of individuals
Demonstrate respectful attitudes towards the characteristics, strengths and abilities of others
Apply strategies to develop a positive sense of self
Recognise factors that contribute to identity
Identify cultural roles and practices that build a sense of belonging
Identify the ways in which Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples connect to Country, Language and Cultural practices to shape personal identity
Practise skills and strategies to support a positive sense of identity and belonging
Recognise own and others’ communities
Identify roles and responsibilities within communities
Identify and demonstrate ways to join a team or group
Identify support services in the community and online that enhance connectedness and inclusion
Identify how connectedness and inclusion positively affect wellbeing
Demonstrate ways to value diversity and enhance inclusion and belonging for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and across a diverse range of cultures
Develop and demonstrate inclusive practices for culture, disability, age, religion, sexuality and gender to support a positive sense of identity
Recognise the impact of bullying, discrimination and prejudice on the wellbeing of individuals, groups and society
Recognise how the body physically grows and changes through the stages of development
Recognise how people change emotionally during adolescence
