The new Personal Development, Health and Physical Education 7−10 Syllabus (2024) is to be implemented from 2027.
2025 and 2026 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2027 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts.
Content
Life Skills
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Some students with disability may require adjustments or modifications, including the use of assistive devices to participate in physical activity.
Participate in a range of physical activities that enhance personal needs, interests, fitness, health and wellbeing
Participate in a range of culturally significant physical activities, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander games
Identify local facilities and environments that promote physical activity for young people
Explore opportunities for physical activity in the local community
Recognise and safely use equipment in a range of settings that supports participation in physical activity
Demonstrate planning skills to undertake a physical activity
Identify how fitness and physical activity improve mental health and wellbeing
Set specific and achievable goals
Participate in group physical activities
Develop skills to overcome barriers and challenges for participation in physical activity
Recognise responses in heart rate, breathing rate and perceived rate of exertion to physical activity
Participate in physical activities designed to improve fitness
Recognise and demonstrate inclusive strategies to participate in a physical activity
Participate in warm-up and cool-down activities
Recognise how warm-up and cool-down activities enhance safety and performance when engaging in physical activities or exercise
Recognise safe and unsafe situations during games and activities
Respond to factors that can influence safety in a range of games and activities
Follow safety advice and guidelines for physical activities
