Life Skills

Life Skills for Stage 4/5

Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.

Movement skills and strategies

Some students with disability may require adjustments or modifications, including the use of assistive devices to participate in movement skills and strategies.

Enhancing and valuing movement
  • Recognise that the body is made up of bones and muscles

  • Recognise that bones and muscles need to work together to perform fundamental skills

  • Recognise that muscles move when engaging in movement

  • Demonstrate how power, balance and accuracy assist with a range of movements

  • Use equipment to control and manipulate objects

  • Develop and use a range of fundamental movement skills in a range of activities

  • Develop and use fine motor skills through participation in a range of activities

  • Develop and use gross motor skills in a range of activities

  • Practise a movement skill for a game or physical activity

  • Participate in a range of games including target, net and court, striking and fielding, and territory games

  • Transfer movement skills between games or activities

  • Develop stability and coordination in a range of movement contexts

  • Recognise and rehearse specific parts of a movement sequence

  • Apply a sequence of movement skills, recognising the use of space and time

  • Apply movement skills in response to stimuli

  • Respond to feedback to improve movement outcomes

  • Observe others and give feedback to improve outcomes

  • Apply feedback to improve technique in a game or sport

Applying self-management and interpersonal skills to movement
  • Demonstrate self-management and interpersonal skills in group games, sports or physical activities

  • Identify items to prepare for physical activity

  • Recognise the role of team members in games or sports

  • Recognise the strengths, qualities and characteristics of a captain, leader or coach

  • Recognise their own feelings and those of others in a team or group

  • Practise positive communication skills to improve individual or team performance
