Life Skills for Stage 6

Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.

Mathematics project
Identify an area of interest
  • Identify areas of interest

  • Describe why these areas are personally significant

  • Select an area of interest to investigate

  • Identify numerical and mathematical aspects of the area of interest

  • Identify and use relevant vocabulary associated with the area of interest

Define the problem
  • Select a mathematical problem within the area of interest to be investigated

  • Describe the mathematical problem

  • Develop one or more questions related to the mathematical problem

Make a plan
  • Identify strategies to investigate the mathematical problem

  • Identify the relevant mathematical skills and tools that each investigation strategy requires

  • Select one or more strategies and justify this decision

  • Identify and sequence the steps required to investigate the mathematical problem

Collect and organise numerical information and data
  • Identify relevant and irrelevant numerical information

  • Collect relevant numerical information from primary or secondary sources

  • Organise relevant numerical information in preferred modes

  • Complete and record calculations to find solutions and/or reach conclusions

Develop and communicate solutions
  • Identify solutions to the mathematical problem

  • Communicate solutions using relevant mathematical terms

  • Reflect on the process and solutions of the project

  • Evaluate the process or solutions of the project
